The Nexus 5 and Android 4.4 KitKat was in the FRONT of our minds today, simply because October 15th was a date that was being tossed around the community as Nexus day. That of course did not happen, but then a mysterious image started floating around from Best Buy.
Seems an empty Google display case has been the buzz for the past few hours, hinting that maybe this was a set up for the Nexus 5. Android sites everywhere started posting about it, and some of us got excited about seeing the beautiful display case. Then reality started setting in, when actual Best Buy employees came out of the woodworks claiming that this kind of display has nothing to do with the new Nexus phone. I guess the original picture taker got a little too antsy when he saw this empty display case, and went on an assuming rampage.
This kind of thing happens in anticipation for new devices, but listen to your Best Buy employees. These displays are for the Nexus 7, as well as Chromecast and Chromebooks. Sure, we would all wish that it was for that shiny new Nexus, but sadly, it is not, and we will just have to be a little more patient. As for that Manager that supposedly claimed that it is in fact for the Nexus 5, we will wait for inventory logs from Best Buy to surface showing the Nexus 5, then we can get excited for KitKat yummy-ness. Apparently Best Buy is going to have their own Google sections in their stores, it just will not be as big as Apple’s, Samsung’s, and Microsoft’s. Let us know what you think about this.
