Blockbuster App Gets Head Start on Netflix in Android Market

Blockbuster has once again gotten a head start on rival Netflix in mobile delivery with the launch of the Blockbuster mobile app for Android.

The Blockbuster application, which is compatible with Android version 2.1 and higher, allows users to buy or rent the latest movies from Blockbuster right from their Android phones with no monthly fees.

Earlier this year, Blockbuster began offering on-demand video via T-Mobile’s new HTC HD2 smart phone.

The Blockbuster application, which was also introduced as a built-in app on the Droid X, integrates with the Blockbuster On Demand service, making it easy to resume watching movies from any other device.

Rentals are currently fixed at $3.99 on both old and new releases while purchase prices range from $15.99 to $17.99. A free Blockbuster account is required in order to activate the mobile app. Upon activation, your mobile device should be able to download and watch movies.
