CM 7.1 released, now supports 68 devices with more on the Way

I know, I am a little late to the game on this one. I saw it roll through my inbox and was so involved with everything else I had going on that I completely spaced making the announcement. The good news though, I am sure many of you may have missed it as well.

There are few rather important things that need to be mentioned. First is the support for the Sony Ericsson Xperia Line up –

All of those devices are now supported by CM 7.1. Which is really great news for the Xperia community.

The second most notable addition are the Samsung Galaxy S II’s on multiple carriers. I absolutely love how fast these guys get they software up and running on new devices so quickly. There is also a rather lengthy change log of what CM7.1 brings to the community. Some of the biggest addition is the OS version now at Android 2.3.7. I know many of you that might be reading this would love to see your device even get a 2.3 update let alone 2.3.7. That is why rooting and custom ROMs are so popular. We can skip all the aggravation of the manufacturers and carriers lacking on the update depart.

As we continue to grow and improve CM, we are starting to see support from the industry grow- something that was unheard of previously. Recently, Sony Ericsson assisted our developers by providing over 20 devices, technical assistance, and compatible hardware drivers. CM-7.1 now has support for all recent SEMC devices thanks to this effort. Various other vendors have reached out to us, but we understand that it is still somewhat of a difficult situation. We will soon be providing a porting guide and some information on how vendors can get involved with the project and how/why it will benefit them.

Thanks again for the support, and for making CyanogenMod the #1 community Android distribution. We’ll be following up with a few minor releases and soon it will be time to start work on CM9!

Even though I have personally switch over to MIUI, I still hold a special place for the work the CM team does. You can bet your bottom dollar that when CM9 starts to find its way to any device I have access to I will be giving it a go.
