When flashing a custom ROM, such as CyanogenMod, there is one major security risk when downloading apps from the market that require permissions and privacy. That concern is root. The CyanogenMod Team posted on their blog page today about the future of CM9 and removing that root access. They plan on merging three patches to give the CM9 the option to disable the root access when it is needed. Here is what these patches do:
- Disabled
- Enabled for ADB only
- Enabled for Apps only
- Enabled for both
Bare in mind, that you will still be required to enable root access just so that you are aware that there are security risks when an app requires that root access. It is all interesting, but it should definitely benefit us. If you want more details head to the blog page in the link below.
