Cricket signs 5-year deal with Clearwire for LTE Network

While Clearwire may have its up and down moments in the industry, they have managed to ink a 5 year contract with regional network provider Cricket Communications. This will make Cricket the second operator to utilize Clearwire for its forthcoming LTE network.  It will help to off-load services and supplement Crickets own venture into the LTE market. Cricket plans to deploy LTE services across approximately two-thirds of its current network over the next two to three years. With expected coverage to reach 25 million POPs by the end of 2012.

“We believe this agreement with Clearwire provides us with an attractive option to supplement our own LTE build-out strategy and gives us the flexibility to access additional 4G capacity were needed as data-centric devices continue to become more popular.” said Doug Hutcheson, President and CEO of Leap Wireless International, Inc., Cricket’s parent company.

Even though Cricket might not be the biggest carrier in the nation, they do offer some pretty great plans for consumers. Offer up decent phones at decent prices with out lengthy contracts or need for a deposit is a perk for many. I know that if I wasn’t a T-Mobile employee previously I sure wouldn’t be able to get on one of the top 4 with out a hefty deposit first.
