Cyanogenmod 12 running on a Galaxy Note 2 gives us an early look at what Android Lollipop might look like on the device

Cyanogenmod 12 running on a Galaxy Note 2If you own a Samsung Galaxy Note 2 like I do, you’ve probably started thinking about getting another device, if you haven’t already. The 2+ year device is feeling its age and that puts it beyond Samsung’s 18 month update support period, even if the Korean manufacturer were being generous. Naturally then, the only chance that the Note 2 has a chance of seeing Android Lollipop is via the Android development community, and if Cyanogenmod 12 running on a Galaxy Note 2 is anything to go by, we might actually be close than we expected. Check out a video demo-ing its features below:

While the ROM appears to run pretty smoothly, Cyanogenmod 12 of course being the Android Lollipop version of the storied ROM family, there are obviously a few bugs and issues that are going to make it challenging to use it as your daily driver. Notably the mobile data isn’t working terribly well, unless you enter a fix through the terminal every time you enable data, and the GPS and camera appear to be a little hairy too. There’s probably numerous other issues, but as a proof of concept on this aging device, I’m pretty impressed with what’s there. If using your Note 2 as your daily driver isn’t an issue, you can try out the ROM by visiting the XDA forum page here.
