Gameloft’s next major title in the Dungeon Hunter series was sort of announced on January 20th when a teaser, along with a developer diary, was released. At the time they stated that Dungeon Hunter 5 would be coming out later this year, but left out a target launch date. Gameloft did state that the title will follow the freemium model where it will be free to play, but offer the more traditional in-app purchase system. Part of what makes the new installment a bit exciting is the new personal dungeons that each player owns to store their loot. This dungeon can be raided by other players at any time so your efforts to put minions and traps in place will be critical in protecting your assets.
When the developer diary was released it showed a little bit of what we could expect in terms of graphics, a bit of the story line and some gameplay of the action. Yesterday Gameloft held a live stream on Twitch with the developers playing the game from the beginning. During the gameplay they offer up insights into the story line, characters, weapons and focus of the game. If you missed the stream, but want to check it out, the recording of it is live for your viewing pleasure over at Twtich. (The embedded video auto-played so I kept it out of the post)
Dungeon Hunter 5 does look pretty good and it seems to be playing pretty well. The character voices, the shadows from the characters and environments and more all look really nice. Hopefully the in-app purchase system isn’t over bearing and you can actually make much of your progress with some traditional grinding.
Be sure to check out the Dungeon Hunter 5 website when you have a chance to register early so you can get some additional goods when the game launches.
