Eight devices named by HTC to recieve Ice Cream Sandwich

A few days after the Ice Cream Sandwich launch event, we caught wind of one Google/HTC engineers prediction for update-able devices. As nice as his list may have been, it sure isn’t the list that HTC has just released. He did manage to get two devices, well technically four devices correct. The HTC Sensation will in fact be on the official list, as well as all of its counter part devices. So will the HTC EVO 3D. Sadly those are the only ones he was right about in any official capacity.

One thing that many of us dedicated Android users should know is how reluctant carriers and manufacturers are to plan for updates. It is easier to say, “We will see.” If they don’t come through then they don’t look like the bad guys. The list that HTC has provided currently does seem like the most logical. Will there be others added in the future? Maybe, but I highly doubt it. It is more fruitful for them to focus on new devices rather than anything hovering at the 1-year-old marker. Take a quick read below of the statement that HTC has made about what other devices are on the table for an early 2012 ICS update –

HTC knows how excited our fans are to get their hands on Google’s latest version of Android, Ice Cream Sandwich, so we’re thrilled today to announce the first wave of HTC phones that will receive upgrades.

Ice Cream Sandwich is coming in early 2012 to a variety of devices including the HTC Sensation, HTC Sensation XL and HTC Sensation XE, as well as the HTC Rezound*, HTC EVO 3D, HTC EVO Design 4G* and HTC Amaze 4G* through close integration with our carrier partners.

We’re continuing to assess our product portfolio, so stay tuned for more updates on device upgrades, timing and other details about HTC and Ice Cream Sandwich.
