Exclusive: WaveLauncher Update Gives Full Instant Widget Support with out Taking up Screen Space

Not that long ago, Wave Launcher hit the Amazon App Store as the free app of the day. I know that many of you may have picked it up when you had the chance to snag it for free. It offers you a very unique experience that works with your current launcher. What makes this application stand out, is the fact that the ‘Wave” can be launched from with in any application you are currently using allowing you to switch apps quickly and easily. Lets take a closer look at this amazing application.

  1. Wave Launcher can hold up to 12 items. An item can be a user app/shortcut/widget/recent app/plugin/folder.
  2. A folder can contain up to 10 items, meaning Wave Launcher can hold a total of 120 items!
  3. Wave Launcher works from within any app, on top of any home-replacement app. No exceptions.
  4. Each item / folder / item-in-folder, can have a custom icon. Any ADW theme icon is supported, as well as any image from the gallery / sd-card.
  5. It is important to go through the Calibrate screen at first run, and set the gesture-area size to 20%, to prevent interference with the virtual keyboard or other apps.
  6. Wave Launcher supports built-in plug-ins, and 3rd-party plugins.
  7. It has a built-in app-drawer which can be accessed from the wave, or by long-pressing the gesture-area (Can be customized via “Long-press action” setting).
  8. The notification-action can be customized as well via “Notification action” (Most useful are enable/disable Wave Launcher, or enable/disable recents mode).
  9. Almost any aspect of the UI can be customized, wave color, label, label background colors, enable/disable label. Custom LED for user-apps/recent-apps and more.
  10. Wave Launcher is designed for high-performance, and being friendly to your battery-life, and memory of other apps.
  11. We take customer support very seriously. Most e-mails are answered within a couple of hours. Never more than 24 hours. A lot of features have been added following user-requests.

In the most recent update they have added widget support. You might be thinking, so what? Well, it is a fairly important and exciting update. Generally widgets get dropped onto our home screens and take up a lot of space. I have many widgets across my home screens for various things. I don’t always need to see them or use them, but they are there for when I do. With widget support now build into wave launcher you simply select the widget in the “Wave”. It will then pop up on your screen and become fully interactive just like if it was on your home screen. The widget will pop up over the top of any application and remains in the “Front” at all times until you hit the red X to close it. Talk about  a sweet feature. Imagine replying to an email and needing to check the weather forecast. Instead of heading home, checking the 7 day forecast and then going back to the email and finding your draft, just slide up the wave. Find the weather widget and look at what you need to and close it out. Super easy and super sweet.

I can’t even begin to tell you how often I find myself using this application. Since the application works with all home replacements and doesn’t replace anything I already use makes it perfect. WaveLauncher removes the need to hold the home key to see the most recent apps to toggle back and forth and provided way more customization to our ever growing desire to use our devices more efficiently. If you already have this app, be on the look out for your update via the market. Check in with the Amazon App Store if you snagged it from them so that you can get the update that will ultimately shrink the number of home screens you will need.

P.S. We were able to get our hands on the latest update prior to launch. It is being processed today and will become available shortly. So keep your eyes peeled for it in the appropriate market place.
