Exit Stage Left: Huawei pulling out of the US Market

Huawei leaves the US
Huawei has been under fire for years about being proxy spies for Chinese Military and intelligence agencies in the US and it looks like Huawei CEO Ren Zhengfei has had enough. In an interview with French journalists, Ren has decided to quit fighting and will steer clear of the US market.

“If Huawei gets in the middle of U.S-China relations,” and causes problems, “it’s not worth it,” Ren reportedly said, according to a Chinese transcript of the interview. “Therefore, we have decided to exit the U.S. market, and not stay in the middle.”

Exiting the US market will take its toll on Huawei being that it is one of the largest markets for them. Part of the Softbank/Sprint deal both decided they would start to “phase out” equipment from Huawei as part of their merger agreement.

While you might not be able to name a Huawei device off the top of your head, but there have been a number of them out there like the MediaPad Vogue 7 . Mostly the US devices were mid to low end devices that were free or extremely inexpensive for consumers. Including various tablets, phones and internet sticks. They filled a gap and a need in the market. With Huawei leaving US shores, that leaves room for the larger manufacturers like Samsung, Motorola, LG and Sony to fill the gap and continue their dominance.
