The FES Watch by Fashion Entertainments is actually a disguised Sony concept

FES Watch by Fashion EntertainmentsA few days ago, a certain FES Watch by Fashion Entertainments concept watch did the rounds on the internet, making very intriguing use of e-ink in a smartwatch that makes the Pebble look positively outdated. It was believed that the FES Watch was being developed as an independent, crowdfunded product, but as it turns out, it is actually a Sony concept, developed by a five-person team that is hoping to make e-ink mainstream not only in smartwatches, but in other products too like paper holders and even bow ties.

It’s a pretty impressive concept and one which could eventually find its way into Sony’s future products. So why hide Sony’s name from the FES Watch’s original pitch? Well, as the team involved says “We hid Sony’s name because we wanted to test the real value of the product, whether there will be demand for our concept.” And it appears they have somewhat achieved that purpose as over 150 supporters contributed around $30K USD (3.5 million yen). For those who did contribute to the campaign, the FES Watch is expected to become available in May 2015.
