In the Android world, you have a slew of choices when it comes to your keyboard needs. Swype, Swift key, Perfect Keyboard, and Better Keyboard, are just a few to name off. Then you just got to pick your poison. I, personally, am not a fan of Swype. I just like to hit the letter I want and not slide my thumbs across the screen. At CES in Vegas last week, we ran into a booth that had the new answer for keyboard technology that made our jaws drop.
Remember t9? Remember when you could literally not look at your phone and type out a full message? It was a talent that we can no longer utilize in full touchscreen world, but that is where Fleksy comes in. When we approached their booth and realized it was keyboard software, I thought, “How could they approve the keyboard?” One of the guys then quickly showed me. He told me the sentence he was going to type out, and he did in fact type it out. Only thing is, he did it by looking straight at me and not facing the tablet it at all. We were intrigued. He then pulled out his phone and did the same thing. Okay he got our attention. He then showed us that it even works without touching the actual keyboard. Wait, what? You read correctly. He started typing above the keyboard in the message box and sure enough, he typed out the full sentence he wanted to type. We were mesmerized at this point.
How Fleksy works is, it figures out where your fingers are touching and determines what you are trying to type. It takes predictive text to a whole new level. Figuring out your QWERTY finger placement and BAM, you can text without looking at the screen. I am sure it would take awhile to get use to, but once you do, texting while driving will be awesome again (even though I don’t recommend it).
Now Fleksy is not on Android quite yet. Yes, big bummer there, and I asked the guy if they planned on releasing to Android. He says they have plans to do so, but for now it is on iOS, or being built-in new products coming out. Check out the video below for a demonstration.
