Free ad-supported Archos Video player released to the Play Store

Archos Media Player
Looking for a video player that looks good, works well and is FREE? Aren’t we all. Well, Archos has just recently put their take on video playback up for free in the Play Store. Yes, they already have their video player in the Play Store, but it was previously $4.99. A new free version that is ad-support is now available for anyone on Android 4.0.3 and up to give a whirl.

I have to say, I am pretty impressed and a little depressed that I didn’t bite the bullet on the paid version earlier. I just might have to do that now. The Archos Video quickly pulls up any and all Movie and TV episodes that are on your device or your SD card. You can navigate to video folders if you prefer or to your SD card. It even gives you the ability to play content from any computer/network storage in your local network (SMB and UPnP) or from an external USB storage device. That right there is pretty darn cool too if you ask me. All movies and TV shows will pull up with official posters for browsing your videos in a really beautiful UI experience. All of that is done automatically for you even.

Once you launch your movie, which opens and plays quicker than the stock player on my Galaxy S III, you have additional functions and features. Such as bookmarking your spot in your movie so you can resume at that point later. Pulling up movie info while it still plays in the background.

There are a number of preferences that you can adjust to your liking as well.

As for the Ad-Supported aspect of this free version, they aren’t terrible. You can see the ad playing on the video, only when you tap the screen and first launch your file. They also appear at the bottom of the home menu and your movie list, but again, are just kind of there and don’t impede your experience. If you give it a shot and the ads are too much four you to handle, you can always just grab the paid version and not worry about it anymore.

While I did take it for a test spin and was impressed on my Galaxy S III, the app also offers support for tablets. The UI on a tablet is a bit different and even cooler really. Take a look at a few screenshots that Archos provided on that matter.

I only spent about 20 minutes with this app, but from I checked out it is pretty awesome. You might want to spend a couple of days with the free version before you drop $4.99 on a video player of course. Feel free to give it a shot when you get a chance. Simply click or scan the QR code down below to pick it up. If you have other suggestions, please leave them in the comments.
