We spend a lot of our time checking into what developers are up to. Android has so much untapped potential. It is nice to see developers thinking outside the box and bringing something new and refreshing to the public. One particular genre, home replacements, are always great to take a look at. Especially when they either work wonderfully or offer something different.
I discovered Full Screen Launcher by Christophe Nys last night and haven’t been able to put it down since. It offers you a very unique endless wall home screen with an amazing reflection at the bottom. You have all your normal home screen abilities, wallpapers, apps, widgets and so on. Simply add them anywhere you want without fear of running out of space. Swipe across your screen as fast or as slow as you want in a seamlessly never-ending space. You can zoom in and out of your home screen via pinch to zoom or even double tapping.
Clean up the amount of space you use with the most unusual folder system I have ever seen. Long press the home and add a folder. You can then add a folder name and select ok. Obviously that is not what is so cool about the folders. After it is added you now have a rotating cube on your screen. As you add applications to that folder their icon image appears on the cube. The more apps you add the less duplicate sides you have. To take it a step further, when you open the folder it looks just like your home screen with the infinite space to add things. This may seem silly for just a folder, but there is so much more you can do. You can add widgets inside the folder too. I set up a ‘News’ folder with all my news apps and widgets, completely uncluttered my main home screen.
Continuing on you will find that your apps drawer is set to a similar style, one full-page that you can scroll across. You can toggle the drawer to be horizontal or vertical. Your contacts are set up the same way. Any contact you have a photo attached too will be displayed in the grid of contacts.
The developer also states that certain widgets will also become 3D when placed on the homescreen and he integrated the use of his Full Screen Caller ID application too. Which allows you to drop full HD photos on your homescreen as contacts.
It is a rather impressive launcher an a lot of fun to play around with. He has a free version available that does display ads at the top on your screen. If you want to ditch those ads you can purchase the Pro version for only $2.79.
Feel free to give it a test run on your device. Be sure to give your contacts and app drawer a few moments to load the first time you access them. After that, it should be smooth sailing.
