Who loves their Nexus Q? Yeah that is what I thought. The Nexus Q was a good idea that fell flat on its face. Google realized that, and yanked it off the shelf. Well now it seems that a new set-top device is coming out of China that looks JUST like a Nexus Q. Maybe it will catch on this time?
The box is called the “Gaiyee”. It is an extension of your phone or tablet so you can stream your content onto your TV just like the Nexus Q. Although it might look like a carbon copy of the Q, the specs are surely different. The Gaiyee has a Rockchip RK3066 ARM Cortex-A9 dual-core processor, ARM Mali 400 quad-core graphics, 802.11n WiFi, Ethernet, and an infrared receiver for the remote control. The Q had a TI OMAP 4460 processor, PowerVR SGX540 graphics. noticable difference on the inside, too similar on the outside. It will also come with a remote control as shown below, so maybe they have something here. Who am I kidding?
This just might be another attempt to getting your content from your device to your TV, and odds are it will not be successful. Let us know what you think.
