[Game] First thoughts and impressions of Towelfight 2

Towelfight 2
I don’t have much time to sit back and play games. Let alone take the time needed to dig in with an in-depth review of it. I will do my best to get a few hours in on a new release if it seems worthy of my time, or if I couldn’t get enough of it in the first 30 minutes. With Towelfight 2 from Butterscotch Shenanigans I just couldn’t stop. While I might not have the same amount of time others have under their belt, I wanted to give you guys a brief little ditty about the game to potentially intrigue you into picking it up for yourself. Primarily because the launch sale price of $0.99 is about to go up to full price of $2.99 and I don’t want you to miss out on the deal.

The basic story line is about an Indian fellow named Hardik and his pet Pug Belle. They get sucked into a world run by the Gods who are having a little bit of a dispute. Of course they can’t settle it, so you have to settle it for them. You have a magical manacle and your pup as your means of attach. The manacle has a ‘clip’ where you attach your various forms of fire power. Which just so happens to be exploding animals of various varieties, with various abilities and various upgrades. All of which you earn from clearing rooms and exploring. If shooting a Bear that lights things on fire isn’t enough, there is also an ancient triad that you can load up with 3 special relics to that offer various attacks and powers. Like a T-Shirt the ‘Refills your blood holes so you can stab everyone.” Or a Juggerhat the lets “Use your face to break rocks and stuff.”

The game play is similar to the Legend of Zelda. You enter a small ‘room’ and kill everything. While you are there you can pick up coins, keys, new ‘jectiles’ to load to your monocle and even new manacles that are faster, hold more jectiles and increase accuracy. After you clear a room you move on. You have a set path that you should follow, but you are free to explore in any direction you wish. It is actually a good idea to go exploring so you can find upgrade and items before you head into boss battles.

When you die, the Gods have a few choice words with you and you are revived. It does cost coins that you earn during play. I don’t see a way to buy any, so spend the time keeping your gold count up. It is pretty easy to just keep killing monsters and destroying bushes for money. There is a store God where you can buy Keys, augments for your jectiles and new jectiles.

The controls take a little to get used to. Since they are onscreen controls you can only move your finger so far before you aren’t on the controls anymore. Looking over to figure out where your finger needs to be is annoying, but part of most touch screen games. On the left is your d-pad for moving. Just press the center and move your finger around like a joystick. On the right is the firing direction. Which is obviously going to be the direction you are firing your exploding animals. Don’t try to tap, your ammo is unlimited, just fire away until everything is dead. The battles in these smaller rooms can be tough. The Moles and the Porcupine creatures are probably my two least favorite. The Mole will duck underground and pop up under you taking half a heart. The porcupine shoots little balls in all four directions as he walks around. Trying to keep an eye on where he is while blowing things up around you and chasing enemies down is a pretty challenging task. Oh, don’t forget there are some rooms with lasers that close in on you and can only be shut off when the room is cleared.

While running around and shooting exploding animals at nefarious monsters is a kick in the pants, the strongest part of the game is the conversations and written texts. You will be rolling during every conversation or pop up explaining what you just found. It is pretty ridiculous and some times disturbing. Then again, using animals as your ammunition to kill monsters and gods is just as disturbing.

I took a bunch of screenshots of some of the action, the text and various other aspects of the game to clue you into to the awesomeness that is Towelfight 2. Some you see above, the rest are down below. If it looks like your type of game, then you should quickly head to the Play Store via the link below and get it before the price increases.

Just for good measures, here is their gameplay trailer one more time.
