Gameloft and Verizon link up to bring voice chat via LTE to Android Gaming

If you’re wondering what is in store for the future of mobile gaming, how does in-game voice chat on the Android gaming platform, without the need for WiFi sound? If you’re like me and you think it sounds amazing, it looks like this will soon be a reality thanks to a new partnership recently announced by Verizon and Gameloft to enable voice chat over Big Red’s 4G LTE network for certain games in their Android portfolio. Word on the Web is that the first game to get in on this action should be Asphalt 6, Gameloft’s popular new racing game with graphics and gameplay that are both incredibly smooth (I was lucky enough to get it for dirt cheap during the 10-cent app promo).

Anyone familiar with online gaming knows the importance of voice communication, especially in team-based games where you need to work together to complete an objective. This is one piece of functionality that has, up until now, been lacking from the Android gaming platform and will certainly come as a welcomed addition for Verizon customers.

If you’d like to get a first-hand look at the LTE voice chat experience, have a look at the following video and try not to wet your pants while doing so, folks.

“We are thrilled to be partnering with Verizon to illustrate the potential of in-game voice chat and multiplayer over the 4G LTE network,” said Baudouin Corman, vice president of Publishing for the Americas at Gameloft. “Gameloft seeks to provide gamers with a complete mobile gaming experience and feels that these features are at the forefront of the platform’s future.”

No time frame was given on when we can expect to see this feature implemented, but we’ll keep our eyes and ears peeled for any updates. Until then, stay tuned!
