About a month ago there was a leaked photo showing a gold coloured HTC One shell, suggesting that HTC was readying a gold HTC One for sale. While that has yet to materialize in public, HTC’s UK Twitter account made reference to an even more valuable variant of the One, namely one made completely out of 18 carat gold. To commemorate the 18th MOBO Awards, signified by the “MOBO 18” inscribed on the back, five HTC Ones will be specially made in gold with the standard One innards.
And the price? A mere £2,750, which works out to just under $4,500 USD for the honour(?) of owning this exclusive phone. While I thought the idea of having a gold-coloured phone like the Samsung Galaxy S4 or HTC One was a bit novel, having a phone made from gold is probably more than a little excessive, though there is obviously a market for this sort of thing if it’s become such a statement for manufacturers to feature their phones in gold.
