Google changing Market to Google Play, other apps to get similar treatment within two Weeks

Just when you thought you had a handle on you apps, their icons and what they look like, Google is about to change everything. Soon, the Android Market, Google Books, Google Music and Movies will be renamed under the Google Play branding. Changing the Market to Google Play Store. Along with the new branding will come new icons. The market icon looks similar to how it is now, the nifty shopping bag, but instead of the little Android guy on it, you will now find the Play logo. It looks like the music app and books app icon also are a little different, while the movie icon appears to be touched up but not changed much.

The changes are set to hit this week and next week. So expect updates to hit your device for the market and the other apps mentioned shortly.

What about the online market you ask? Well, that is changing as well. You can try to access market.android.com, but it will now redirect you to play.google.com. So get used to that and re-bookmark it for future use. The layout of the web-based market looks similar to me. a few noticeable differences are located right under the shifting banner. The big block icons may have been there before, I am not certain, but the ‘You Installed’ and ‘You Might Also Like’ is definitely new.

Along with the release of Google Play, they have a number of specials already underway. Some of which we will let you know about very shortly. Until then, check out the new web look at play.google.com, and lets us know if you have the new market on your device yet and if you notice anything different.
