WHAT?!?!? Well this was something that I don’t think any of us saw coming. Apparently Google will be closing down support for the
Google Wallet pre-paid card features and balances and you will no longer be able to add funds to the cards starting September 17th. Users will have 30 days, October 17th, to use up any remaining balance or to cash it out and get a refund. A refund will take about 8 weeks for you get back in the form of a check. Hopefully not to many of you have your life’s saving one there.
Google explains this move is due to the fact that you can now add any debit or credit card to the system through the cloud. It does make sense, but seems a little silly. It sure would be nice to have both options available to people. As an added kicker, Google will be charging a $2 a month maintenance fee on inactive accounts. Previously it was $2 after 180 day of inactivity. From what we are reading, you will get that fee charged to your account every 30 days, even after the service stops. Guess they really want you to request a refund by October 17th.
What do you guys think? Will this impact your use of Google Wallet? Have you already done away with the prepaid anyways and moved it to your bank account? Lets here it down below
