Google Drive getting New Social Features

Google Drive Social

Google Drive on the desktop will be the recipient of a shiny update. One that adds some nice looking social features to document creation.

If you’re the kind of person that creates documents in a group, but you want to chat with your fellow authors whilst doing it, you don’t have to switch tabs any more.

When you open a shared document in Drive, you will see the profile pictures of other people currently viewing the document.  You can then view profiles, add to your own circles, and even start a group chat in just one click.

The new features will be rolled out to the desktop version over the next couple of days, with no word yet on whether or not these features will reach the mobile app.

Adding in social features to document editing is a new approach, and one that will be welcomed by groups that are not always in the same place at the same time.
