Google Editions is not a lost cause, Yet

According to the WallStreet Journal Google is in the final stages of prepping the release of Google Edition. Which is their much anticipated EBook store that was talked about earlier this summer. Recent developments peg the launch of this new service by the end of the year. Which is good news for the holidays if it happens.

In the last few weeks independent book sellers have been receiving contracts from their trade groups and are already exchanging files with the search giant.

Scott Dougall said “Because of the complexity of this project, we didn’t want to come out with something that wasn’t thorough,”

Which is a good thing really. I have never know Google to really do anything half ass. With this plan in motion and with Google making it happen we can all expect to see millions of books available not only in your browser on any PC you sign into but also across all Android devices with a single reader from Google powering them all. This would simplify your EBook experience. No longer would you need another device or a specific “store” access to gain those books you love.

I’m not much of a book reader myself, but I am sure many of you are. Are you guys ready to give up your Kindle or Kindle app if this pans out to be as big as it should be?
