In order to enhance the navigation experience of Android users in India, Google Maps is now available in Hindi. However, you will have to change your preferred language to Hindi if you want to get directions in Hindi on Google Maps. Currently, you will be able to see the names of roads, streets and buildings in Hindi as well as English so that users don’t get confused.
“Google is committed to making its products more useful for people in India, and creating comprehensive maps is a crucial part of helping Indian users access information about parts of the country that are unfamiliar to them. By launching Google Maps in Hindi today, hopefully Indians can explore and navigate the world around them more easily, whether these are people who already use Maps to find their way around day-to-day or Hindi-speakers coming online for the first time,” said Suren Ruhela, Google’s Director Product and Program Management.
Since Google is trying to make its app more useful locally, it has also added an ‘Explore Nearby’ tool in the Maps application that offers fine-grained control over place suggestions to its users. For example you can select food, drink or any specific area of interest and then tap on a drop down menu showing morning, noon or any time of the day, the Explore Nearby tool will show you a wide range of interesting places to explore.
