Today, Google has released a new version of Google Maps that appears to be pretty insignificant until you check the permissions they are asking for on your phone.  The update lists the changes as “Reduce app storage size”.
Dig a little deeper into the permissions screen and you’ll see that they are now asking for NFC access. Â So what have they done? Â What are they using NFC for? Â Maybe you can share your location or your maps details with a close by friend by simply tapping the devices together just like the Ice Cream Sandwich demo we’ve all seen.
I can’t wait to see what they do next with Android and Ice Cream Sandwich just around the corner.  This is an exciting time for Android and hopefully with it is were they finally start to reduce the fragmentation and get the same OS and functionality across the board.
Take a look below at a couple of screen shots I snagged before I installed it. Pretty exciting stuff.
