Google-Motorola deal gets green light from European Commission

Google Motorola Acquisition

The European Commission has approved the proposed acquisition of Motorola Mobility by the world’s most widely used (and our favorite) search engine giant, Google. This news comes to us in the form of a short blog post from the company’s VP and Deputy General Counsel, Don Harrison. “This is an important milestone in the approval process and it moves us closer to closing the deal,” said Harrison. “We are now just waiting for decisions from a few other jurisdictions before we can close this transaction.”

So, what exactly would this acquisition mean for us, as Android users and community members? According to Harrison, the deal should prove to be pretty exciting: “As we outlined in August, the combination of Google and Motorola Mobility will help supercharge Android. It will also enhance competition and offer consumers faster innovation, greater choice and wonderful user experiences,” added Harrison.

Of course, that still leaves tons of room for speculation, and we’re still not even 100% that the deal will go through, but I’m all for the thought of Google taking over the helms, completely scrapping the MotoBlur project and making all Motorola devices from here out strictly AOSP. Does anyone think that may be a possibility or do you see a different route being taken?
