Your Google Play Movies & TV purchases now appear in YouTube App

Over the years Google has been slowly working to unify the Android user experience. Whether it be pulling out system apps and putting them to the play store so they can better keep them updated or integrating current apps with one another to make life easier. One the more recent additions from the land of Google is a new “Purchases” section on the YouTube app. The update is not app related, but rather on a push from Google’s end that makes the new menu item available. The Purchases section brings up a running list of the content you have purchased through the Play Store, just like in the Google Play Movies & TV app, minus the pretty layout.

The list can’t be sorted or modified and appears to be in the chronological order. You can add each of the movies or tv shows to your “Watch Later” list, favorites or create a new playlist with it though. Not to mention share it like you would any other YouTube video.  Sharing won’t do the recipient any good though as it only offers up a preview of the movie with an option to purchase it. It is nice to be able to add it to me Plex que though for watching later on the Google TV set-top box.

As I said before, the update that adds this little menu option is not dependent on a Play Store update, but rather a push from Google’s back-end. For instance, we know the most recent YouTube update is v5.7.41, you can download that here, but the images above were taken on v5.7.38. It could extend back a little further too, we aren’t sure.

It is nice to see integration through YouTube for your Movie & TV purchases. I don’t think Google is pushing towards removing the Play Movies & TV app though, but more so another visual reminder that you bought things and you should watch them. I need that visual reminder, I forget about the movies and TV shows I own from the Play Store because I rarely ever think to open the app.
