HTC Desire Gingerbread Update in Testing Phase

The HTC Desire‘s road to Gingerbread has been a long one. Said update was supposed to be released a long time ago and when information finally rolled out it wasn’t the news everyone was hoping for. After months of developing a Gingerbread update for the Desire, HTC released a statement officially killing any hope of release of aforementioned update due to size constrains without the devices internal storage. After a couple of days that statement was recanted and procedures were started to shrink the update by removing select apps in order to meet the tight size issues. Up until now HTC hasn’t released any statements regarding progress on the new update, which ahs now officially ‘test’ status.

Hi all- We’re excited to share that we are testing our build of Gingerbread for HTC Desire and will start doing quality assurance for it this week. When we have an update on availability we’ll post another announcement. Thanks for your support!

Nothing has been mentioned as to what apps they removed, nor if anything else was changed. A target release is set for August and with any luck we’ll see a few leaks before then to better give us an idea of what to expect.
