HTC Desire unlocked and available to the U.S.

Me: What is the deal with the British pound being worth almost double the American dollar?
David: Its so awesome. That’s why. Also USD sucks.

You’re probably wondering what this exchange has to do with Android.  A couple of retailers in the UK, Clove and Expansys to be exact, are now selling unlocked versions of HTC Desire. The good news is Desire will work in the states. The bad news is while the device supports 3G, it will not work on U.S. 3G bands, leaving you with a lowly 2G device.

The other slightly bad news is the selling price of £330 works out to be about $507 plus taxes and shipping fees, the reason for questioning my emigrated friend. It’s a  pretty standard price, but one cannot help getting a bit excited at the site of a low number. Given the above limitations, would you really want to pay that much?

If you do, you can find HTC Desire here and here.
