Ever since HTC started locking bootloaders on their new devices, development around the HTC community has been progressing at a rather slow pace. Although HTC has provided a tool on their HTCDev website to help unlock the bootloaders, the tool doesn’t completely turn the device S-Off, meaning that developers still have hurdles to jump through before they are able to load up custom ROMs and such.
Today, Unlimited Team has released a sneaky little tool called JuopunutBear (Which I have no idea why they named it this) to help fully turn S-Off on some HTC handsets. The list includes
- HTC Amaze
- T-Mobile MyTouch 4G Slide
- HTC Rezound
- HTC Sensation & HTC Sensation XE
- HTC Vivid
The process of fully unlocking isn’t the easiest of all, though, as users will first need to fully backup the contents of their SD card since it will be erased during the process as well as unlock their bootloader through HTCDev.
There is also something called the “wire trick†for each of the devices that can be a little bit difficult for first time hackers. Thankfully, the team over at Unlimited Team have YouTube guides to help out the community.
It’s nice to finally see more support for HTC handsets going in, since most of the development news these days have all circulated around the Galaxy Nexus and its 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich goodness. Now that we finally have S-Off on more HTC devices, expect more love for your HTC handset!
