HTC teases ‘Utopia in Progress’ as they gear up for MWC and their next flagship device

With the conclusion of CES 2015 last week, the next big event n the list is Mobile World Congress, or MWC, is held annually in Barcelona Spain. Traditionally MWC is where many device manufacturers will showcase the new years device or devices while others will take to their own stage at their own events. In true fashion the web has been a flutter with rumors as to what HTC is up to for their next flagship and/or mid to low tier devices. Many of you might remember HTC’s last major announcement was during their Double Exposure event in October when they announced the Desire EYE and Re Camera. While the Desire Eye is a pretty awesome little device, it isn’t the flagship HTC One line. The current HTC One M8 was announced at the end of March last year so it is definitely time for a refresher from the Taiwanese company.

If rumors are true, we should be gearing up to see the announcement of the HTC Hima. That is the code name at least. It will most likely be the HTC One M9, because, well, changing the name of a flagship in the third year is just not smart. Hima M9 leaks have placed the device with a 5-inch 1080p display, 3GB or RAM, Qualcomm 810 processor and a 2,840 mAh battery. There are also talks the HTC will put in a 20.7 MP rear camera ditching the Ultrapixel and Duo camera setup they tried out last year. For a perfect pairing, there is supposed to be a 13 MP front shooter. Sounds a lot like they took some of the Desire Eye and packed it in.

It is very likely that it will also continue tradition with the much-loved Boomsound, similar build with a potentially smaller frame and potential for water resistance.  They did it on the Desire Eye. Samsung, Motorola and Sony have been offering the water-resistant (or splash resistant) flagship devices, it would make sense that HTC gets in on it too. I do find it interesting that the rumors aren’t pegging a screen size increase or a push to the higher resolution display. While I am perfectly ok with that, I am curious to see how it does play out.

If the rumored details hold true, are you going to be interested, or is HTC potentially making a mistake not moving screen size and resolution up?
