HTC One X hardware fault causes bad Wi-Fi signal Issues

We often look at the new devices that a manufacturer puts out in complete and utter awe. Mostly because of style, design and speed. When it is pretty, we want it. When the specs say it rocks and we see it rock in person, we want it. When issues are discovered after the fact, we kick ourselves in the teeth for not acting before we thought about it. It would appear that there is a hardware issue relating to the Wi-Fi antennae in the HTC One X. The issue is present among many users who are experiencing poor Wi-Fi signal and even complete Wi-Fi drop off. That is a pretty major issue for many of us that run on Wi-Fi most of the day.

According to XDA member bigoliver, there is a pretty simple test you can perform to see if your device is one of the many affected. Gently squeeze your One X between the camera and volume buttons with your index finger and the same location on the front of your screen. If your Wi-Fi signal increases when you do this and then drops again when you let go, you are in the mix of troubled devices. Not extremely scientific, but it gives a visual way to test it out. Take a look at a quick video test of this in action.

If it isn’t one thing it is another. The current thread at XDA is getting rather full of people with the same issues. Some have gone so far as to dismantle their devices and fix the issue themselves. There are a few videos of how you can do this on your own, but it is a risk only you can decided to take. It is a shame to see such an amazing and popular device suffering from such a seeming-less silly manufacturer defect that should have been caught. Maybe they will send out a nifty Wi-Fi dongle to everyone… Wouldn’t that be a joke. We cruised through a few pages of the forum and didn’t see if any mention of the AT&T One X, but assume it has a similar problem. Take a gander at the thread and let us know if you have found this issue on your device.
