HTC planning ‘Special Announcement’ for the U.S. on Wednesday March 18th

Tomorrow, March 18th, HTC will be live streaming a “Special Announcement” that will be broadcast on HTCAmerica’s YouTube channel. The channel went live with a countdown timer earlier this evening that leads up to the event which will start at 10 a.m. Eastern time, 7 a.m. Pacific. Jason Mackenzie, HTC America President, pushed out a tweet yesterday stating that they have a “BIG” announcement planned.

It is safe to assume that the announcement is aimed at U.S. customer specifically and I wouldn’t be surprised if it carried along launch dates for the carrier versions of the HTC One M9. After all, the countdown video shows a HTC One M9 as its image before you hit play.

See what I mean. That doesn’t really qualify as BIG news though that would really warrant a full on live stream. Talks of a Windows variant One M9 are making the rounds, they did it with the One M8, so it makes sense to continue on the tradition. I am not sold on that idea yet since the Android One M9 has been a ‘hot‘ topic since its original announcement at MWC. I will lead my sights towards the rumored HTC Petra smartwatch that has been rumored that never made a showcasing at MWC. A separate event for the watch in the states makes more sense and would be pretty BIG in my opinion. The HTC Petra made its rounds in the first part of February but fizzled when HTC didn’t announce the device. It is more so wishful thinking than anything.

Regardless of what HTC plans to announce, I will hopefully be watching it on my way out the door and let you all know what happened, assuming it is worth writing out.
