HTC shutting down HTCSense.com, download your data ASAP

Not everyone in the world knows that HTC has, not for long, a cloud sync for Sense. It was a free service that was available by default for your HTC Sense enabled device. It allowed you to sync up your contacts, Messages, Footprints and Call History to HTC’s cloud servers. From my experience it was more of a requirement in Sense than and option. HTC will no longer be offering or forcing this service to their customers starting May 1st. That is literally right around the corner. If you use this service or have in the past you might want to jump to the site and download your information before it is deleted. You have through April 30th to get your data downloaded before they kill it off.

We assume this action is due to lack of current users using the service. Since Android already syncs most of the same information to your Google account, along with various Play Store apps that are more popular. It doesn’t make ‘sense’ for HTC to continue to force or offer the service. If you have used it in the past or potentially still do, head over to HTCSense.com and you’ll see the announcement at the top of the page. Click on “download’ to get stated and snag your data in a handy zip file for future use.

Reading the release bellow, it sounds like they are working on a revamp of services at some point in time in the future. Not that they really think they need to worry about it anymore.

Dear HTCSense.com customer,

HTCSense.com is undergoing a renovation to improve the services and value we deliver to customers like you.

Until the new services are ready, features previously available on HTCSense.com will be shutting down. If you have been using HTCSense.com to sync your Contacts, Messages, Footprints or Call History, you can download your data through April 30, 2012. After April 30, your data will no longer be accessible and will be deleted.

Download your .zip file by following these steps:

  • Visit http://htcsense.com
  • Log in with your HTCSense.com username and password
  • Click the ‘Download’ button in the Account Overview section
  • A .zip file containing your data will download to your computer for easy viewing

If you would like phone location or backup services for your device, please visit Google Play (formerly Android Market) and download an application that best meets your needs.

If you need additional assistance, please contact HTC Customer Service.

We apologize for any inconvenience. You’ll be among the first to know when the new and improved services are ready.

Thank you,
HTC
