Huawei is a biggest Chinese smartphone manufacturer has made some great devices in the past few years, including the Nexus 6P. We have seen many companies build their own custom ROMs based on Android, which is nothing new. Samsung has even made its own Tizen operating system for its devices offering an Android-like experience.
Now, a new report claims that Huawei is making its own mobile 0perating system in case anything goes wrong with Google. Huawei devices currently work on their EMUI 5.0, which is their own custom ROM, built on top of Android. Last year, the company hired a former Apple designer to make EMUI better and give it a different look than iOS as they both look quite similar.
In an interview, Abagail Brody told The Information that Huawei’s mobile operating system is under development. It’s not ready yet, and is in its early stage. They have hired developers who used to work for Nokia for this project, and it is being developed in Scandinavia. Though they might see no immediate use of this operating system, it can act as an alternative.
Smartphone manufacturers have maintained their standard with their own custom ROMs, developing something different than stock Android experience. If this operating system comes with new features and customiztion options, we may see huge demand like Huawei’s market in the smartphone sector.
