As it was announced back in October, Sony Ericsson promised to update all 2011 Xperia phones to Ice Cream Sandwich some time in the new year. Well according to Sony Ericsson’s official product blog, those devices will start to see Android 4.0 roll out at the end of March and early April 2012 The first Xperia Android phones up for the upgrade are the Xperia Arc S, Xperia Neo V and Xperia Ray. Followed by Xperia Arc, Xperia PLAY, Xperia Neo, Xperia Mini and Mini pro, Xperia pro, Xperia active as well as Sony Ericsson Live with Walkman will start to see ICS updates roll out near the end of April to the start of May. Sony Ericsson says this will be a phased rollout which will span several weeks and not all models will be upgraded at the same time.
Sony Ericsson goes on to say that they feel the new software is ready to go right now, but they need to make sure it is all given the go ahead by their external partners. Now I can venture a guess that “external partners” refers to Mobile carriers and if that’s the case; What a surprise, Carriers holding up our Ice Cream Sandwich.
Sony Ericsson will be keeping us all up to date on the Android 4.0 progress as well as sharing video demos of ICS on the Xperia android phones we listed.
Again these are 2011 Xperia lineup to get Ice Cream Sandwich:
