Ice Cream Sandwich headed to Cincinnati Bell’s Nexus S in January

Before you guys all go postal on the January time frame, lets take a step back. Think about it. That’s less than 2 weeks away. It may seem like forever, but considering that the update to Ice Cream Sandwich just started to hit the original Nexus S and a port has been built for the Nexus S 4G, you are still sitting pretty. No other device has ICS headed to it yet so consider yourself lucky to be thought of. Cincinnati Bell released a statement to AndroidCentral regarding the update time frame –

Cincinnati Bell’s Samsung Nexus S is among the handsets that will be receiving the Google Ice Cream Sandwich 4.0.3 update.  The updates will follow Google’s OTA schedule which will be pushed out through January 2012.  Please keep in mind the update requires Android 2.3.6 to work properly and will NOT work if  the device hasn’t been updated from Android 2.3.4 software.  Contact your local Cincinnati Bell Wireless store for information relating to updating your Nexus S to Android 2.3.6.

Even though didn’t give a specific date in January, it is still likely that an update might start hitting your devices sooner. It all comes down to what Google has set up and scheduled for the device. You can bet there will be an update in the coming weeks at least. As the statement also mentions, if you are looking forward to the ICS update, you better make sure you are currently on Android 2.3.6 first or you will miss out entirely.
