Ingress for Android Wear is going to be a thing starting next month, says Niantic Labs

Gaming on Android Wear, as a whole, is pretty much non-existent. Whether you think games should be on wearable devices or not, it’s disappointing to see that not more developers have had a stab at innovating and appropriating games for smartwatches, but it appears Niantic Labs has already been busy behind the scenes. Ingress for Android Wear, it says, will be available next month, and players will be able to link the game from their mobile device to their Android Wear device, and using the device’s GPS, be able to see the Ingress world all from your wrist.

This means that taking down enemy portals and potentially even social aspects of Ingress will be all-new ways to experience the augmented reality game, and while it’s not a perfect gaming scenario for some, a well integrated companion app and experience is really the next best thing. It will be exciting to see if other companies try to gravitate towards developing immersive companion and connected gaming apps for Android Wear in the future as this is one area where the form factor really shines.
