iPad Envy? Nah…Grab an Archos Android Tablet instead

Don’t have the money for a new iPad from Apple.  Worry no more , Archos have announced some awesome looking, if not a little under powered Android-based tablet devices for the wallet saving price of $200-$223.  The new tablets will be known as the Archos 7 and Archos 8 Home tablets.

The new tablets are sporting 7-inch and 8-inch screens and will be known as the “Home” tablets.  The surprising part about the new devices is the fairly low specified  600MHz ARM 9 processor.

The new devices are designed to “bridge the gap” between your Smartphone and your desktop computer.

Archos “Home” tablets will feature Wi-Fi, USB, and 2 or 8GB of integrated memory.  The nice feature is the expected  battery life.  According to the announcements, the devices are capable of playing seven hours of video or 44 hours of audio.

The Archos 7 Home Tablet will be available in 2 GB for £129.99 ($193) and 8 GB configurations for £149.99 ($223) from April 2010.  the Archos 8 and will be available with 4GB of memory is expected to go on sale in May at £129.99 ($193).

The second range of devices they announced is the new range of Archos Internet Tablets, based on an ARM Cortex processor running at up to 1 GHz.  They are expected to launched in summer 2010.

The next-gen tablets are slated to offer an expanded set of features, with screen sizes ranging from 3″ to 10″.
