Android 4.4 gave us all a little bit of a surprise when we found out that the touchless voice controls when on the homescreen work on all devices running the new version of Android. We kept hearing it was strictly a Nexus 5 feature, but then that only made it so much sweeter when all of us on non-Nexus 5 devices were able to utilize it. Well it seems that a Redditor found a kind of Easter Egg within the new Google Now. Strap on that iron suit…or just say “Ok Jarvis” to your Google Now.

Apparently saying “Ok Jarvis” will activate the voice controls on the new Google Now. This Redditor performed many tests with different key phrases, and found out that the Jarvis command worked just as well is the default ok Google command. Here are his findings with the different key phrases:

I don’t know if this works with the Moto X, but it definitely works with the Nexus 5 and the Note 3. For me it works as well as saying “OK Google.” Just saying “Jarvis” does not work, unfortunately.

Edit: A lot of users have posted other phrases that work well. I’m not sure if this was an update to Google Now or what, but Google Now definitely seems to be picking up more phrases than I remember. Below is a list of confirmed phrases:

  • “OK Jarvis”
  • “Ok Computer” – works only 50% for me
  • “Hey Google”
  • “OK Phone” – works only 50% for me
  • “OK Hugo”

Will add more when confirmed.

On my HTC One running the first KitKat build, I had about a 50% success rate with saying ok Jarvis. “Hey Google” worked flawlessly for me, and “ok Hugo” worked a lot better than Jarvis. It is interesting that they implemented those key phrases in there, but Google just knows how nerdy we are about stuff like this. Let us know how it is working on your device.
