Is a Nexus tablet back in the Works?

We all know the Nexus line of devices has been the flagship device of Google ever since the Nexus One. Consistently launching a new Nexus Every year along side a new and improved Android OS. The Nexus line is built specifically to run that new version and future versions of direct Android going forward. Not to mention they are designed to be hacked, cracked and modded to a developers desire and dreams. Especially with the latest Nexus installment receiving a factory boot image directly from Google to help you get back to stock after a major screw up.

We know that the newest Android 4.0 release is designed to bridge the gap between phones and tablets. Aiming to make app development easier and more universal. Not to mention, ICS on tablets is shaping up to be drop dead sexy, fast and amazing. You guys all saw the first ICS port running on the Motorola XOOM right? According to a response received from an Italian news outlet, an official Google Experience tablet is in the works. At least that is what Google’s Eric Schmidt hinted at. The translation is a little fuzzy at best, but leads many to think that an Official Google branded tablet might hit the masses in as little as six months. The other direction that he could have been speaking about is Android 4.0 tablets from manufacturers. If that’s the case, then we all know that is already under way. The Transformer Prime is said to have it out sometime in the first quarter of 2012.

It is still an interesting thought either way a person takes it. Now that Google has officially backed ICS as the OS for tablets and phones going forward they might just have a few tricks up their sleeves for a Google branded tablet. One can only hope. Who knows, maybe that is the announcement we are waiting to hear on their Google Plus account today. I can’t imagine that something that big would just get dropped without a major press conference though.

What do you guys think? Is there a chance Google will work with another manufacturer to bring us a true Google experience tablet device next year? Maybe they plan to stick with phones for a while linger.
