Releasing kernel source is paramount to the success of device customization. With out source the devs have little to work with. They do a darn good job with out it, but source makes it that much easier. Samsung seems to be the best manufacturer playing nicely with the rules and the community. One of the problems devs face with the T-Mobile version of the
Galaxy S II is definitely the change in processors. Going from an Exynos that all the others use to a Qualcomm, made it a bit different. It will make this version a little more special and require a little different attention. Unlike the previous
Galaxy S line of devices, much of the work done on one device will have to alter dramatically to play nice with
T-Mobile.
With source out now, root should be just around the corner, along with recovery and the first of many custom ROMs. Not to mention the ability to tweak that processor and crank it up a bit. It should start to get interesting out there for these devices. I can’t wait to see what the talented community can do with it.
