Amazon is apparently pushing out an update for the Kindle Fire, bringing the software version up to 6.2. Of course, there hasn’t been peep officially uttered about what’s included in the update, and I have a feeling I might know why. Word on the streets is that the OTA, which is configured to update automatically over WiFi, will nix your root access. Even worse, it seems like there’s no way to stop the update from coming in.
There’s good news, however, as you can easily SuperOneClick root your Fire again after the update is applied, using the instructions that are conveniently located on the XDA Forums. It’s also worth mentioning that the update may wipe your Android Market app and custom keyboards, as well as your root privileges. Don’t worry, though. If this does happen, you shouldn’t lose any of the apps you’ve already downloaded from the Market.
I find this development to be quite humorous, considering it wasn’t that long ago when Amazon said they knew their customers would be rooting the Fire, and could care less. So much for that, eh?
