We’ve seen quite a lot of the LG G Flex already following both hands-on photos and even a video, we’ve really only been lacking an official announcement and specifications for LG‘s first curved smartphone. Well, the wait is over as LG has officially announced the G Flex and spilled the beans on its internals.
The G Flex is going to utilize a 6-inch OLED display, which we suspected, however the resolution is ‘only’ going to be 720p; 720p may be good enough, but 1080p would have been much more appropriate for a 6 -inch screen. However, since LG’s flagship, the G2, has a 1080p display, it seems a lot more likely the display resolution on the G Flex is a limitation of the flexible display technology that is being utilized here.
Other notable specifications include a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor clocked at 2.26GHz, 2GB RAM, a 3,500 mAh battery, a 13MP camera affixed above the now expected rear buttons, and will be shipping with Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean. It seems like a fairly standard affair apart from the star of the show, the curved screen, though LG has suggested the G Flex has a few party tricks up its sleeve.
These include the ability of the phone, by virtue of its curved design, allows the microphone to be closer to your face for clearer call quality, as well as suggesting the G Flex is capable of some kind of sound conduction technology. Hopefully there are a few more tricks to be shown because as the package stands, it still seems a little ordinary.
The LG G Flex is going to be launched in Korea next month, with nothing yet mentioned about a global launch, though this seems a lot like an experimental launch in LG’s native Korea to see if there’s actually any demand for such a phone. Who would get the LG G Flex if it ever landed wherever you are? Let us know in the comments.
