LG Optimus G officially announced, includes Dual Screen Dual Play Implementation

We have all been following along with the leaks of the LG Optimus G. It was kind of hard not to. Whether you were an LG fan or an LG hater, the leaked specks sure did sound pretty darn great. Well LG has finally let the cat out of the bag a little earlier than we all thought. They have recently posted up a press release at their news room going over the devices details and offering up only one single image. Yes, that would be the one you see above.

As far as specs are concerned;

  • 131.9 x 68.9 x 8.45mm
  • 4.7-inch True HD IPS+ Display at 1280 x 768
  •  1.5GHz Qualcomm S4 Pro quad-core processor
  • 2GB of RAM
  • Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich
  • 2,100 mAh battery
  • 13MP rear camera
  • 1.3MP front camera
  • LTE
  • Dual Screen Dual Play

Ok, so all of that was pretty much known already. But what the heck is this Dual Screen Dual Play (DSDP) feature. We all know what HDMI mirroring is, it creates the image on your device through an HDMI cord to your  TV. According to this release, DSDP will allow you to essentially use your device as a dual monitor of sorts. Toss up a movie on your TV and still be able to respond to emails and text messages without interruption. Now that is pretty darn cool.

Of course all the tech behind the display cutting 70% power consumption and the battery being 60% more efficient is nice too. Oh and the new thinner bezzel and G2 Touch Hybrid glass that puts the icons and the touch aspect nearly next to your finger doesn’t hurt either.

The LG Optimus G is scheduled to hit South Korea next month and to land in Japan by the end of the year. No word yet on a stateside release though. Verizon or AT&T might be wise to try and get their hands on this one ASAP though.

I gotta say it, “Is that the new iPhone 5?” Hey at least LG should have a clear path from Samsung in South Korea thanks to Apple.
