LG, Samsungs’ long time rival in the mobile space, have confirmed they are bring out a device toting a Flexible OLED Display late this year.
LG’s vice president of mobile, Yoon Bu-Hyun, dropped the info during LGs’ earnings call earlier today.
During the call LG also announced a Q1 91% profit drop compared to Q1 of last year, though this is mostly attributed to their TV division having poor sales.
Hopefully being the first to market with a flexible OLED display will help LGs’ profit margins significantly, as so far all we have had is rumour and speculation about other companies bringing flexible OLED display technology to the market.
Bear in mind we are only talking about a flexible DISPLAY, not a flexible DEVICE.  A flexible display will allow the screen to wrap around the body of the device, eliminating the bezel, and bringing some interesting options to the device (think music controls down the side of the screen, at-a-glance information etc).
If this all comes to pass, this could really revolutionise the mobile market, and with LG at the forefront, it should foster some interesting competition from Samsung.
