LG set to launch new ‘My Media Box’ cloud service May 1st, Android app soon to Follow

Now that LG is setting its sights on Android to help give the company a much-needed boost in smartphone sales, what else are they going to do to get ahead. One approach is going to be a new cloud service that will be launching in a beta status tomorrow. The service will be much like any other cloud service we already see today. Allowing you to automatically sync and back up various file types to and from your smartphone. They do have a few tricks up their sleeves though. The service is said to be able to stream your content from the cloud to your PC, LG Smart TV and Android device through the associated applications. Making it a bit more useful in our opinion.

“Most companies today only see the cloud as a storage device or in the case of YouTube
or Flickr, only for one type of content,” said LG’s Mr. Kwon. “LG makes the devices
that millions of people watch content on so we can set a new yardstick for ease of use
by setting up our own cloud service. Tomorrow’s consumers don’t want to go to one
cloud for music, another cloud for video, another location for photos and yet another
cloud for their office files. In the end, our solution is about making life more
convenient.”

They will be launching a free and paid service, but pricing and storage sizes are still under wraps for now. Personally, the ability to stream my videos from the cloud to any connected device has always been something of interest to me. While Dropbox, Box and Google Drive offer me plenty of places to save files for future access, none of them offer everything yet. Hopefully LG makes this work flawlessly and brings in a new era of storage and accessibility to all of their products.

Anyone looking forward to seeing how LG handles their upcoming cloud service?
