[Update – Official] Look out Atlanta, Charlotte, Raleigh-Druham and Nashville, Google Fiber is coming

Google Fiber is on its way to four new markets across the United States with coverage planned for Atlanta, Charlotte, Raleigh-Druham and Nashville according to sources of the Wall Street Journal. Apparently local news outlets in those areas have been sent invitation to attend events scheduled for this week that make the announcements official. The city list isn’t a new one though as all the locations were previous discussed as part of nine possible locales to expand into early last year.

Google Fiber potential locations

Unfortunately that means Phoenix, San Jose, San Antonio, Portland and Salt Lake City will have to hang on a bit longer. Further information points to annoying roadblocks in Portland thanks to tax-assessment rules that could take a number of months to iron out. Stupid Portland.

Any of you in the four mentioned locations planning to jump on the Google Fiber bandwagon when the news drops?

Update: Google has officially made the announcement via their blog.
