Mew Media Player – A better way to browse your Android music library

When the first iPod came out, I wasn’t very impressed with music library navigation. Drilling down and up through each artist and album was just too cumbersome for me, and I wished there were a better way to browse through the music.

With the introduction of music players for Android, I was really hoping that someone would come up with a better way to browse the music library. Unfortunately, all the popular music players followed Apple’s lead and implemented the drill down and up paradigm as well. How disappointing!

What was I to do? Just settle for something that didn’t meet my needs? Heck no! So I decided to write my own music player for Android.

Mew Media Player (free) and Mew Media Player Pro ($1.99 USD) completely does away with the drill down and up paradigm, replacing it with full listings, with songs indented under each group (artist, album, genre, playlists, etc.)  Displaying the music library in this format makes it incredibly easy to browse through songs and create playlists. All I have to do is scroll up and down and if need be, use the alphabetical index to help narrow down a specific entry. The app also includes a convenient search feature, that displays songs in each category in the same full listing format, so I can see exactly where songs are listed in the library.

If you’re tired of drilling down and up, you might want to give the free version a try and see if you like it. Mew Media Player is available in the Android Market.
