Today, as part of making sure SkyDrive is available to all Windows customers, we’re excited to announce that an official SkyDrive app for Android phones will be available in just a few weeks. The Android app is similar to our mobile apps for Windows Phone and iOS and allows you to browse your SkyDrive, upload files to SkyDrive, as well as share SkyDrive files with “Send a link.†You’ll also be able to open SkyDrive files from other apps, as well as upload, save, and share to SkyDrive from other apps.
Yes, Microsoft SkyDrive is a direct competitor with Google Drive. Google won;t block the service from the Play Store, they will welcome it, as they do with most anything else. From what we have heard though, SkyDrive ups Google’s offering though. GDrive only offers 2GB of free storage where SkyDrive kicks you 7GB of free storage. Never hurts to have plenty of space available to you at home, work, your tablet or your phone. The UI layout will, of course, be very metro… I mean Windows 8 looking. After all, Microsoft has changed the name officially after fears of backlash of the term ‘Metro’.
While the hardcore community might not be all that excited about the app, we know there are still plenty of SkyDrive users out there that will be glad to see the app finally become available.
