MIT Develops Optometry App for Android to Prescribe Glasses

Do you need glasses, but purchased that Android handset instead? Thanks to MIT, you can see just how bad your vision is using a $2 box that refracts the image displayed on the screen of your Android smartphone. The Camera Culture team at MIT’s Media Lab has taken the parts of a holographic barcode scanning device to create this $2 box which, when used with the app, manipulates a set of lines and dots and spits out a prescription. This app was developed by MIT to easily find glasses for people in developing countries, which would also save the optometrist some time, allowing more people to be helped.
